Stevenson Schedules Annual Senior Expo for Oct. 23
*NOTE: Due to the shortage of serum for flu vaccinations occurring all over the country, the flu vaccinations will be given free to veterans and for a nominal fee to their spouses, as the serum is available.*
More than 50 vendors and exhibitors will offer information and ask questions at Rep. Dick Stevenson’s (R-Mercer/Butler) Ninth Annual Senior Expo, to be held from 9 a.m. until noon on Friday, Oct. 23, at Grove City College.
“From prescription drug assistance to health screenings and recreation opportunities, senior citizens can learn more about a variety of federal, state and local programs at the expo,” Stevenson said. “I encourage all seniors in the 8th District in Mercer and Butler counties to stop by and ask questions about any senior-oriented program or service in which they may be interested.”
Exhibitors will also be on hand to discuss health care, prescriptions, long-term care, safe driving, Meals on Wheels, and post-retirement living.
A new offering this year will be free flu shots for veterans from the Veterans Administration. If residents have received veterans services in the past, they are included in the VA’s database and will not need to bring any accompanying information. For veterans and spouses who have not received VA services, they will need to bring their DD214 papers as verification of veteran status. Providing serum is available, veterans’ spouses can receive the flu vaccine at a nominal fee from the Visiting Nurses Association.
The expo, which will be held in the college’s intramural room, is open to seniors age 55 and older and their families.
There is no admission fee to attend, and refreshments and door prizes will be offered.
